Chasing Light, Moments and People In Akihabara

Akihabara Is More Than Gammers and Maid Cafes:

Electric Town has a reputation for being full of gamers, anime collectors, tourists, and maid cafes. It has all those things, but it also possesses a budding maturity that can be seen peering through the cracks in Akiba’s shiny facade.

This duality is what draws me to photograph it. No matter how we dress it up, the truth still exists. It can be painfully more apparent to everyone than we are willing to believe. Akihabara is no different. There are several layers beyond the obvious to capture and document.

Please take all the pictures of whatever you like; I do. Then, I take the images that mean the most to me. That is where to find the best work. It is harder, but it is worth it. That is where the growth is.

The freaks and geeks are on to you in Akihabara. That is okay, because there is so much more to photograph which is often far better. Again, shoot what you will.

For wahtever reason I found people in Akiba hyper aware. This makes it a great place for street photography. People more often than not make eye contact providing a great chance to practice. It can be difficult to press the sutter button when eye contact is made. It takes practice to get over the fear and even more practice make that a meaningful moment.

I will take all the practice I can get.

Conclusion: Get After it in Akihabara

Akihabara will provide you with a wealth of opportunities to improve your street photography game. At the surface level there is tons of character and color to capture. With a little effort there is a lot more there to work with.

Please take the time to leave a comment or a question. I would love to hear from you.
